Step into PR Virtual Insight Programme

Are you an undergrad or graduate who is interested in understanding what PR is really about? Are you keen to learn about how to create viral social media content, how to build influencer campaigns or how your natural passions in fashion, politics or even climate change can be linked to a career in PR? If the answer is yes, then join our virtual insight programme and Step into PR!

About the Programme

You may not be sure what PR really is and the exciting opportunities it provides. Perhaps you may have an interest in areas such as politics, charities, fashion, technology, content creation, beauty or law (or even a combination of them all!)
but are unsure of how these interests can connect to viable
career options.

Designed to inspire and engage undergraduate and
graduate students from a Black, Asian and/or ethnically diverse background, the Step into PR Programme is a 5-day virtual education programme that explores what a career within PR
& Communications can look like for you.

With accessibility in mind, no experience is required to take part. The programme is completely virtual (involving only two-morning masterclasses a day) and you can be based anywhere in the UK! The programme is led by practitioners from across the industry who, over one week, immerse you into the working world of PR.

Programme Outline

Running from October 28th – November 1st 2024, the virtual Step into PR programme will provide you with the opportunity to build your confidence, network with PR professionals across a range of different industries, enhance your CV and explore a variety of career options available to you within the PR industry:

Day 1:

Providing you with your first step into understanding the PR industry, the first day of the programme will cover an introduction to what PR is and what the day-to-day of someone working in this field looks like. You will then gain an insight into the campaign creation process within Consumer PR; what a campaign is, the creative brainstorming process and how they are created to drive meaning and impact.

Day 2:

The second day will be insight-driven and split into two masterclasses. One will provide an insight into Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle PR and the other will introduce you to Digital PR, Social Media & Content Creation.

Day 3:

For those interested in policy and politics, our third day of the programme will provide an insight into the world of Public Affairs (Government Communications) and Financial Communications. These masterclasses will showcase what a day in the life of these roles entails and the opportunity to see this in practice.

Day 4:

Focused on employability skills, the fourth day of the programme will involve workshops that provide CV & cover letter tips alongside support on submitting applications for internships and
graduate programmes.

Day 5:

Our final day of the programme will include an opportunity to learn about social impact communications. This will cover ESG & Sustainability but also areas such as healthcare, technology and charity PR.

By the end of the week, you will have
an understanding of the wide range
of opportunities available within communications and the confidence to apply for work experience and internship opportunities, starting with the Taylor Bennett Foundations’ very own Summer Stars Internship programme (2025) or work experience weeks within our employer network.
